Diversity, equity, and inclusion

At Affirm, we believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are vital as we scale and build our high-performing team. Our strategy involves embedding DEI into all processes, programs, and structures at Affirm across the entire employee life cycle—how we hire, develop, advance, and retain Affirmers, and in how we do business.

Awareness

Unconscious bias training  We partner with Paradigm to run interactive workshops that go beyond awareness-raising, and motivate employees to engage in effective behaviors for managing bias.

Diversity hiring strategy training  Every hiring manager at Affirm is trained to run an inclusive hiring process and build teams committed to DEI.

Quarterly newsletter Our DEI newsletter gives Affirmers an in-depth look into our DEI work over the past quarter—including recruiting, events, new programs, volunteer opportunities, and more.

Engagement & DEI survey We send a twice-yearly survey to our employees to gain insight into their experiences and create informed DEI action plans.

Hiring

Nextplay We’re a proud partner of Nextplay—the leading career development platform for Black and Latinx tech professionals.

URG sourcing sessions The DEI team hosts regular sessions where Affirmers search through their networks to find underrepresented groups (or URGs) as potential referrals to open roles.

BreakLine BreakLine collaborates with tech industry partners to provide talented employees from underrepresented backgrounds with skills-based training needed to transition into new careers in tech. They offer programming verticals for people of color, veterans, and women.

Action

Diversity & Inclusion Steering Committee (DISC) This is our internal Affirm committee made up of senior leaders from across the company. They provide oversight, support, and guidance to departments and teams across the company on business initiatives that impact DEI.

Robust DEI team We have a team dedicated to full-time DEI work. Their focus areas include internal DEI policies and programs, external hiring partnerships, recruiting from URGs, and increasing and supporting our merchant partners from URGs.

Community engagement  Affirm engages with local nonprofit organizations to build connections and offer support. We've hosted Code Nation and Code 2040 in our offices and worked with Career Karma on their Reskill America initiative.

DEI working groups  We have departmental working groups open to all Affirmers to get directly involved in moving our DEI work forward. Currently, we have DEI working groups in our Commercial and Engineering organizations.

Employee resource groups

Our employee resource groups (ERGs) are made up of people from underrepresented groups and their allies. ERGs work with company leadership to advance our commitment to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce and help facilitate a culture where all Affirmers feel they belong.
